The setting up of the Knutsford and District Talking Newspaper is a good example of the way Lions work within the community. The initial creation of the recording facilities and funding was provided largely by the Knutsford and District Lions Club - with significant participation by some of the early members of the Lions Club.
The first edition went out on 27th June 1979 - and it has been continually issued every week since then without a break.
In February 1980 the Knutsford and District Talking Newspaper became a registered Charity number 509745 and is run by an independent committee. Many of the volunteers have also been with the Paper since it's inception - true dedication to a very worthwhile cause.
The Talking Newspaper operates in the following way:
Members of the Lions still normally help with production of the tape when there is a fifth Wednesday in the month - the first four Wednesdays each having a regular weekly team of local volunteers.
