Lions Clubs International

Lions Clubs International is active in over 200 countries. Knutsford Lions Club is proud to be part of LCI.

Founded in 1917 in Chicago, Illinois the organisation has some 1.3 million Lions in some 200 countries. Being such a large organisation gives LCI a standing within the international community. In 1945 the founder of LCI and two past international presidents were asked to help develop the non-governmental charter for the United Nations. Since then LCI has cooperated with the UN on many humanitarian ventures. As a non-political secular organisation LCI has had no involvement with the political side of the UN.

Lions clubs within Britain and Ireland, including the Knutsford Club come within Multiple District 105. The first club within Britain and Ireland was chartered in London 1 March 1950. This club was set up by Colonel Edward Wyndham who had been sent to thank the Canadian Lions for their help providing funds for children orphaned during the blitz. Colonel Wyndham was sent to Canada by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, who later became the Queen Mother.

There are now over 20,000 Lions within Britain and Ireland in some 944 clubs.

The following map shows the location of clubs in the MD105 BS district currently based on 2008 information.
